The Reuters Institute Digital News Report 2026 is the fifteenth edition of the institute’s annual study of how people access, use and trust news. Published in June 2026 by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, it draws on an online survey of almost 100,000 respondents in 48 markets, fielded by YouGov between mid-January and the end of February 2026.
The main themes are the growing role of social media and online video as news sources, the rise of creators and influencers, early use of AI chatbots in news journeys, and falling trust. Trust dropped significantly in 29 of the 48 markets and is at its lowest level since tracking began. The report is most useful for editors, journalists, policymakers and marketers who want to understand audience habits across markets.
